migraine in the office - How chiropractors treat headaches and migraines

If you get regular headaches and migraines, you are not alone. Far from it. Headaches are extremely common, with many people having to deal with chronic headaches that diminish quality of life.

Headaches can be pounding, throbbing, stabbing, dull, mild or acute. The pain may affect nearby areas of the body, particularly the neck and shoulders. In addition, there may be other unpleasant symptoms.

The standard approach to headaches is to lie down, pop a pill or grin and bear it, hoping that it goes away. There are better alternatives, though. One of those alternatives is chiropractic treatment.

Can your headaches be treated?

If you’ve been suffering from chronic headaches for a long time, you may be at a point where you are frustrated and don’t know what to do. Perhaps you have tried everything but just can’t seem to find relief. Well, there’s good news. Chiropractic can help treat and reduce the severity of headaches and migraines. We can eliminate shoulder and neck pain, too.

These are very good reasons to seek chiropractic care.

Chiropractic treatment can be an effective solution for individuals struggling with disruptive headaches. Depending on the type of headaches, there are different treatment techniques available.

Types of headaches and chiropractic headache treatment

There are various types of headaches that can affect a person. One of the first steps in treatment is to determine what type of headaches you are suffering from. Most can be treated with chiropractic and musculoskeletal treatments, and we have seen great success with patients over the years. Some of the common types of headaches that respond well to treatment are cervicogenic headaches, tension headaches and migraines.

Tension headaches result from muscle tension in the neck, shoulders or head, causing shoulder and neck pain in addition to pain in the head and behind the eyes. Migraines can affect one side of the head or the whole head, and they are often accompanied by other symptoms such as nausea, tingling and sensitivity to light and sound.

Cervicogenic headaches generally stem from neck problems. They typically occur on one side of the head and neck and can affect the shoulder and arm, although patients don’t always experience pain in these areas. Abnormal movements and postures may trigger cervicogenic headaches.
